A drunk mum’s car crash sparked a mass blackout that left thousands without power.
Hungry Ashleigh Kerr, 25, was on her way to grab some snacks from a service station in Southport, Gold Coast, when she collided with a traffic light on March 28, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.
The smash also damaged a power pole, leaving 2500 homes without power for several hours, and left her $40,000 car beyond repair.
Kerr recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.151. The legal limit in Queensland is 0.05.
The single mother, who has a three-year-old child, had been drinking with friends in Surfers Paradise, Southport Magistrates Court heard.
She pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of liquor and was fined $1000. Kerr is disqualified from driving for six months.
